Ares I-X in the Vehicle Assembly Building
For the first time in more than a quarter-century, a new space vehicle stands ready in NASA Kennedy Space Center's Vehicle Assembly Building in Florida. The final segments of the Ares I-X rocket, including the simulated crew module and launch abort system, were stacked on Aug. 13 on a mobile launcher platform, completing the 327-foot launch vehicle and providing the first entire look of Ares I-X’s distinctive shape. The Ares I-X flight test is targeted for Oct. 31. (Source: NASA)

Spitfire Versus MX2
To celebrate the return of the Red Bull Air Race World Championship to London on 2 & 3 August this year, current World Championship leader Paul Bonhomme today took the controls of a 1940's Spitfire to try his hand at 'air racing' of a different kind. Bonhomme's aim was to test the speed and agility of the Spitfire, against a modern day plane designed specifically for the Red Bull Air Race, the MX2, piloted by his World Championship opponent Nigel Lamb.

In October, Radio City Music Hall is presenting Peter Jackson’s full "Fellowship of the Ring" on an enormous projection screen while Howard Shore’s entire film score is performed live in synchronization with the picture. Performers include Maestro Ludwig Wicki leading Switzerland’s 21st Century Orchestra, the Collegiate Chorale and the Brooklyn Youth Chorus, and Kaitlyn Lusk.
